Luisa Heese is Curator for Contemporary Art and Sculpture at the Kunsthalle Mannheim, Germany.
She studied Cultural Sciences and Aesthetic Practice in Hildesheim, Germany, and Caldas da Raínha, Portugal. From 2012 to 2020 she was curator, and from 2019 interim director (together with Hendrik Bündge) at the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, Germany. Here she curated or co-curated numerous exhibitions such as VALIE EXPORT. Fragments of a Touch (2020), Boris Mikhailov. The Space Between Us (2019), Alina Szapocznikow. Human Landscapes (2018), Emeka Ogboh. If Found Please Return to Lagos (2017), Money, Good and Evil (2016) and Eva Kot'átková. Experiment for Seven Body Parts (2015). From 2020 to 2023, she was director of the Museum im Kulturspeicher Würzburg, where she curated or co-curated the exhibitions New Order. On Art and Order in Uncertain Times (2021), KONKRET GLOBAL! (2022), Michael Müller. The Salvation of Evil (2022), and Witches! On Bodies, Knowledge and Power (2023). As a researcher and writer, she regularly contributes to international art publications and conferences.
At the Kunsthalle Mannheim she has recently curated the show “Sarah Lucas. Sense of Human”. As Lucas’ first institutional exhibition in Germany since 2005, the show brings together works from almost four decades of artistic creation. These range from early objects from the 1990s to recent works in which she further develops questions of the corporeal in the social field.
