Virginija Januškevičiūtė is a curator based in Vilnius. In addition to exhibition making she often engages in new commissions, a vast range of events, and publishing, and has extensive experience in management roles. Her education involves Art History and Theory in Vilnius Academy of Arts, De Appel Curatorial Programme, Mini MBA at SSE Riga, a course at Sustain Academy, and many years of working at the CAC Vilnius, among other things.

Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) in Vilnius is one of the key venues for contemporary art in the Baltic region, founded in 1992 by the Lithuanian state. With approximately 2000 sq m of exhibition space and abundant staff, it organises an vastly international programme. The CAC is due to reopen after renovation in 2024. Virginija Januškevičiūtė works there as Curator and Advisor.

Sapieha Palace is a Baroque monument of architecture that has for many years served as a hospital and military school. After extensive refurbishing it will open in 2024 as the CAC’s new branch, hosting a wide range of audiences and events, yearly exhibitions and more. Virginija Januškevičiūtė is currently responsible for its upcoming artistic programmes.

Are we done with art criticism? What does a healthy art infrastructure involve? While the main venue of the CAC is undergoing major renovation, the CAC organises exhibitions at other venues – also abroad – and launches initiatives such as Art Criticism Awards and its accompanying series of events. Virginija Januškevičiūtė’s own writing is about to appear in the forthcoming editions of Artnews.lt, the Lithuanian National Art Museums’ yearbook and elsewhere.
